Dear everyone

I hope you’ve had a good July. The Big Weekend got the summer off to a good start for me, and I’ve been enjoying checking out new Open Studios artists and craftspeople at the weekends.
There is so much to do in Cambridge at this time of year, including lots close to home:

The City Council’s Playdaze programme has free children’s activities all over the city, including some at Nightingale and Coleridge Recs and Cherry Hinton Hall. Download a programme.

The Friends of Rock Road Library have a family event on 29^th July: Kids’ Fun and Rock Abundance. There’s a wildlife/bug hunt and other activities for children, and a plant stall and produce swap for adults.

Get to know our area better with their new family community trail exploring the part of Cambridge north of the library. Pick up a copy from the library – I believe there is even a prize.

The local Children’s Centres have a busy summer programme, including messy play and a books/clothes/ toys swap. Download a programme.

Which leads me on to the much less cheerful news that the County Council is reviewing children’s centres and proposing to close four in the south of the city: Homerton, Fawcett, Cherry Hinton and Romsey Mill. More details on my website and a link to our petition.

The County is running a consultation at https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/children-and-families/children-s-centres/children-s-centres-consultation/. It runs 17^th July – 22^nd September. They are putting on a drop-in event on 3rd August (2.30-4.30pm) at the Arbury Community Centre. If this is a difficult location for you, we recommend going to one of the local children’s centre events, as some will have staff in attendance to discuss the review.

RESIDENTS’ PARKING

A residents’ parking scheme in the Morley area of Queen Edith’s will start this autumn and operate Mon-Fri,10am – 7pm. The City Deal Partnership has agreed to fund the setup costs, meaning residents will not have to pay an initial fee on top of permit costs.

The County Council will be consulting on new residents’ parking schemes later this year, including two in Coleridge between Cherry Hinton Road and Mill Road.

LOCAL HIGHWAYS INITIATIVE
The first drawings are coming through for schemes funded by the Local Highways Improvement Initiative. If you live in a street that successfully applied to this programme, please check my website for updates.

WHIPPET BUSES

Whippet is deregistering several bus services, including the 114, which runs between Addenbrooke’s and the city centre, via Coleridge, Lichfield and Mowbray Roads. The buses will make their last journeys on 1^st September and will only resume when new operators have been found. More info.

ROADWORKS

The County Council informs me of planned roadworks every fortnight. I post the details on my website, eg https://amandataylor.focusteam.org/2017/07/22/impending-roadworks/. One that will be significant for Queen Edith’s is the UKPN cabling work on Hills Road, which will mean the cycle lanes over the bridge will be suspended for the next four weeks.
